The Junior Trojans girl's basketball team bounced the Jr. Barons 31-28 in the consolation final on the weekend at a hoops tournament hosted by Chippewa S.S.

The John McClelland rink from North Bay lost 4-3 to the Willie Jeffries rink from the Ottawa area Sunday afternoon at the Labatt Classic Northern Ontario Curling tour event which took place this weekend at the Granite Club.

The North Bay Trappers were hammered 8-2 Saturday night at the McIntyre arena at the hands of the Timmins Majors. Kody Carnevale and Darcy Vaillancourt scored for the Trappers. Kory Cashabek and Bradley Norkum each had a pair of goals for the Majors.

The Nipissing Lakers dropped a 2-1 decision Saturday afternoon to the University of Toronto in OUA quarter-final action. U of T built a 2-0 lead after the first half and Cameron Culbert cut that in half for the Lakers.

The Lakers are hoping to carry a wave of momentum with them down to Toronto Saturday as they play the biggest playoff game in the University men’s soccer team’s history.

Slow starts have become a growing concern for the Skyhawks this season. Friday night versus the Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds, the Hawks put together one of their best first periods on home ice in weeks, leading the way to a 6-4 victory.

If there last meeting was any indication, Saturday’s NDA Sr. football final will be a shootout. The Wildcats outlasted the Trojans 47-35 in their only meeting this year.

The Algonquin Barons Senior Girls Basketball clinched first place with a decisive 59-21 victory over the Northern Braves Thursday night at the Northern gymnasium.
