North Bay’s Dylan Jackson, has secured a spot on the Canadian team heading to the North American Indigenous Summer Games (NAIG) July 2nd to the 10th in Denver, Colorado.

The NAIG games are a large-scale celebration of culture and sport and will host 10,000 Canadian and American Native Athletes who will compete in sports ranging from softball, boxing, running, lacrosse to swimming.

The 14-year old St. Joseph-Scollard Hall student, is a member of the CFB North Bay Thunderbird swim team, and says he is excited and honoured to have the opportunity to represent the city and the country during the games.

Jackson admits the costs of getting to the games are far more than anticipated, so he and his family members have been fundraising to help offset some of the costs.

Jackson who will compete in six single bantam class events July 7 and 8 welcomes help in his quest and donations can be made at Follis Shoes on Main Street.

Area swimmer Jordan Penasse and golfer Karen Commanda will also join Jackson and compete at the games.

The NAIG mission is to improve the quality of life for Indigenous Peoples by supporting self-determined sports and cultural activities which encourage equal access to participation in the social/cultural fabric of the community in which they reside and which respects Indigenous distinctiveness.
