North Bay's Marshall McCharles and the Greater Sudbury Cubs finished their Centennial Cup run on a winning note as they defeated Collège Français Longueuil (LHJAAAQ) 6-0 Wednesday afternoon in a Centennial Cup contest at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville.

McCharles led the offence with a pair of goals for the Cubs. However, the Cubs had dropped their previous 3 games in the tournament so the victory over the Quebec representative had the Cubs eliminated from playoff contention in the 10-team National Junior 'A' Championship event as they finished the tourney with a 1-3 record.

McCharles, a 2022 Sudbury Wolves 10th round draft pick from the North Bay AAA Trappers program, finished the week with 4 goals and 2 assists in three games with the Cubs.

McCharles was already coming into the tournament on a high.

Back in late April, the 2006 birth year power forward scored the series-clinching game-winning goal late in game 5 of the Northern Ontario Junior 'A' Hockey League final as the Cubs defeated the Powassan Voodoos four games to one to win the NOJHL crown

"It’s great for Northern Ontario to be able to compete on a national stage and have the opportunity to showcase what we can do," McCharles said about the opportunity to play at the Centennial Cup.

The Cubs already had some other local connections to their roster.

Astorville product Kaedyn Long, joined the Cubs as an affiliate player after playing Jr. B with the St. Thomas Stars.

Meantime Cubs forwards Ben Harris and Nolan Newton also wore North Bay AAA Trappers colours during a portion of their minor hockey days.
