By Don Curry. Canada’s big city mayors have been vocal in their support for doing more to expedite the process of bringing Syrian refugees to Canada – as they should be.

Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin officially opened his campaign office today in North Bay. About thirty supporters, with Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli, joined Aspin for the Conservative cause. Aspin told the crowd he was running on his record.

Lee Park was full of colourful people Saturday morning. They were running, jogging and walking in a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. In its third year, Colours of Hope 5K drew many people eager to help while having fun exercising.

A couple of North Bay film makers are finalists in the Cinéfest Sudbury CTV Best in Shorts Competition. The screening of the finalists’ films takes place Saturday, September 26th at 12:00 p.m.

The South River/Machar Agricultural Society Fall Fair had a grand start Friday evening with The Parade of Heroes. A procession of EMS vehicles followed First Responders marching by foot.
