Saturday round-up: Boost National curling at Memorial Gardens

The playoff rounds got underway Saturday, leaving the men's and women's finals as Sunday's main events.

NORTH BAY, Ont. — The finals are set at the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling Boost National 2022 at Memorial Gardens.

For the second straight year, Newfoundland's Brad Gushue has qualified for the title game.

After winning his quarter-final 9-6 over Michael Brunner, Gushue blanked Corey Dropkin 11-0 in the semis. Gushue will play Niklas Edin in the final. Edin edged 2019 winner Matt Dunstone in the semis 4-3 after winning his quarter-final 9-1 over Colton Flasch.

In other results from Saturday, Flasch won a tiebreaker, 6-3 over Philippe Hosli, Dunstone edged Kevin Koe 6-5, and  Dropkin topped Brendan Bottcher 7-5.

On the women's side, the final will be contested between Kerri Einarson and Silvani Tirinzoni. Tirinzoni won 7-5 over Kaitlyn Lawes in the semis after defeating Jennifer Jones in the quarters. Einarson won 8-5 over Satsuki Fujisawa in the final four after topping Team Keiser 6-2 in the final eight.

Lawes won twice on Saturday: 7-2 over Isabella Wrana in a tiebreaker and 8-4 over Rachel Homan in the quarter-finals.

Jones won a tiebreaker, as well, by a 6-0 count over Chelsea Carey and Tabitha Peterson lost 11-2 to Eun Ji Gim. Gim lost in the quarters to Fujisawa 7-5.

The women's final is at 11 a.m. and the men play at 3 p.m.
