EDMONTON — The National Ringette League (NRL) has officially come into existence. The announcement was made here on the weekend by the NRL board of governors.

The Canadore Panther women’s volleyball team opened their OCAA season on the weekend with a split. Theylost their home opener against Lambton College 3-2. “We let this one get away,” said Panther coach Tyler Landry.

SUDBURY _ The North Bay Trappers defeated Kingston Predators 4-1 to finish with a 3-1 record in round robin play in the annual Big Nickel tournament here. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the playoffs losing 3-1 to Gloucester Rangers.

The North Bay Trappers are 2-1 in the Big Nickel hockey tournament. They defeated Ann Arbor Jr. Wolverines 3-1 on goals by Josh Ranger, Kyle Willard and Josh McCully. Martin Lauzon had two goals in a 4-3 win over Kitchener Jr. Rangers.

Skyhawks, Black Bears tie

North Bay Skyhawks and the Northern Michigan Black Bears are playing it close this year in the NOJHL. The first meeting was 3-2 victory on a third-period come back by the Black Bears.

Anna Violo, a third-year goalkeeper and rookie midfielder Stephanie Muldoon of the Nipissing University Lady Lakers have been named to the North/South second all-star team in the OUA women’s soccer division.
