Two local musicians finalists for 'Outstanding Songwriter' award

Two other locals are finalists for the Outstanding Director award

Four North Bay artists are finalists in two categories of the Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) ‘Outstanding Songwriter’ and ‘Outstanding Director - Short/Mid-Length Film’ awards,

On May 8, the initial round of music and film award category nominees were unveiled.

Today the nominees for Outstanding Songwriter were released.

  • David Dino White, “Search Party” by David Dino White (North Bay)
  • Nicholas Cangiano, “Dazed” by Nicholas Cangiano (North Bay)
  • Evan Pang, Sean Sroka, and Derek Hoffman, “Somebody Else” by Aysanabee (Sandy Lake First Nation)
  • Greyson Gritt, Tessa Balaz, and Petr Balaz, “Turnin’ it Up” by G.R. Gritt (Greater Sudbury)
  • Ryan MacDonald, “Suffocate” by The Honest Heart Collective (Thunder Bay)

Also, the Outstanding Director - short and mid-length film nominees were announced.

This year CION received the highest number of music and film submissions in its over two-decade history of hosting the awards ceremony and conference.

"An overwhelmingly positive response to the NOMFA 2024 submissions intake round encouraged CION to introduce a brand-new award category – ‘Outstanding Director - Short/Mid-Length Film’ – which highlights both established and up-and-coming filmmakers based in Northern Ontario who excel in short-format storytelling. Two North Bayites have been nominated.

Winners for each category will be revealed during the NOMFA 2024 Award Ceremony on June 29 at Place des Arts in Sudbury.
