Four North Bay artists are finalists in two categories of the Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) ‘Outstanding Songwriter’ and ‘Outstanding Director - Short/Mid-Length Film’ awards,
On May 8, the initial round of music and film award category nominees were unveiled.

Today the nominees for Outstanding Songwriter were released.
- David Dino White, “Search Party” by David Dino White (North Bay)
- Nicholas Cangiano, “Dazed” by Nicholas Cangiano (North Bay)
- Evan Pang, Sean Sroka, and Derek Hoffman, “Somebody Else” by Aysanabee (Sandy Lake First Nation)
- Greyson Gritt, Tessa Balaz, and Petr Balaz, “Turnin’ it Up” by G.R. Gritt (Greater Sudbury)
- Ryan MacDonald, “Suffocate” by The Honest Heart Collective (Thunder Bay)
Also, the Outstanding Director - short and mid-length film nominees were announced.
- Austin Lindsay, Walter’s Room (North Bay)
- Piotr Skowronski, Bang Bang (North Bay)
- Ian Johnson, A Bunch of Junk (Greater Sudbury)
- Victoria Anderson-Gardner & Kyle Schmalenberg, Braided Together (Migisi Sahgaigan First Nation)
This year CION received the highest number of music and film submissions in its over two-decade history of hosting the awards ceremony and conference.
"An overwhelmingly positive response to the NOMFA 2024 submissions intake round encouraged CION to introduce a brand-new award category – ‘Outstanding Director - Short/Mid-Length Film’ – which highlights both established and up-and-coming filmmakers based in Northern Ontario who excel in short-format storytelling. Two North Bayites have been nominated.
Winners for each category will be revealed during the NOMFA 2024 Award Ceremony on June 29 at Place des Arts in Sudbury.
