A rally for peace will take place this Saturday in North Bay. Mayor Al McDonald has been coordinating the public event ever since the Charlie Hebdo shootings. On January 7th, in Paris, France, 17 people were killed and eleven people injured.

On January 11th, an estimated crowd of two million people gathered in Paris to promote peace.  More than 40 world leaders including British Prime Minister David Cameron, as well as Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, took part in the peace march.

Mayor McDonald felt that the community would benefit from this Saturday’s function as a show of solidarity for the victims of the Parisian tragedy.

McDonald says the goal of the City of North Bay is to be a welcoming, inclusive community where everyone is  invited to be part of our success.

“A healthy city is a community of citizens that believe in working together in peace, with understanding and compassion. This event is an opportunity for our community leaders to speak on why working together is important. We all want to build a safe community, best for families. We need to talk about what acceptance and understanding means to them and their families.”

McDonald has commitments from presidents, doctors, MP Jay Aspin, surrounding area mayors, teachers, churches, students and community leaders to speak at the event. The rally is a free invitation to the public. The rally will start at 12 pm at the Davedi Club located at 313 Airport Road.
