Colton Point gets NHL call-up

North Bay's Colton Point is one step closer to his dream of playing in a regular-season National Hockey League game today. 

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the team has recalled goaltender Colton Point from the Texas Stars. Additionally, the team has loaned goaltender Landon Bow to Texas.

Point, 23, has appeared in five AHL games with Texas so far this season, posting a 3-2-0 record with a .896 save percentage and a 3.41 goals against average.

The goaltender owns a 5-6-1 record with a .877 SV% and a 3.63 GAA in 13 career AHL appearances over three seasons with the Texas Stars.  

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound former North Bay AAA Trappers goalie was originally selected by Dallas in the fifth round (128th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft.

Anton Khudobin, Jake Oettinger and Landon Bow have been the only goaltenders in front of him on the Stars goaltending depth chart as former All-Star goaltender Ben Bishop continues to rehab from off-season surgery.  

"I'm just looking for the opportunity going in there and showing what I have and give them a reason to give me a new contract and making strides toward my potential NHL career so I am excited for what the season holds," Point told BayToday prior to the start of the Stars training camp in early January. 

"I hope some good things can come out of a bad situation."

Point has spent the past two seasons primarily playing with the Stars ECHL affiliate in Idaho.
