FRAUD A North Bay man received a cheque for almost $4000 from a legitimate Investment Trust Company out of Toronto. An accompanying letter advised he was chosen as a mystery shopper and he was given two assignments.

A North Bay man received a cheque for almost $4000 from a legitimate Investment Trust Company out of Toronto. An accompanying letter advised he was chosen as a mystery shopper and he was given two assignments. He was to spend $100 at a local store then wire 2 $1000 installments to an Atlanta address using western union so they could test Western Union’s procedures and professionalism when handling money. When the victim cashed the cheque he learned that it had been reported stolen from the investment company in Toronto. Cst Merv Shantz is investigating.

ASSAULT WITH WEAPON
At 11:42 PM North Bay police responded to a incident where it was alleged that an argument between a man and a woman escalated and the man threw the woman out of his apartment, spit in her face, banged her head off the wall, held a knife to her and told her he would kill her. A 23 yr old man is in custody charged with two counts of assault, assault with a weapon, utter death threats, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and breach of probation. Cst Randy Adair is investigating.
