Former Soo Thunderbird Matt Dias scored in the third overtime victory to give the Sudbury Wolves a 4-3 overtime victory over the Belleville Bulls in Sudbury Friday night.
Former Soo Thunderbird Matt Dias scored in the third overtime victory to give the Sudbury Wolves a 4-3 overtime victory over the Belleville Bulls in Sudbury Friday night.

The win clinches the Eastern Conference final series for the Wolves who wrapped it up in 6 games.

They will move on to meet the Plymouth Whalers in the OHL championship series starting next week.

North Bay has had a connection to the series as Cogeco's Greg Estabrooks and Brian Winkworth have been involved in Cogeco OHL live TV coverage during the three contests in Sudbury this past week.

NOJHL shutout

The Dudley-Hewitt Cup final will not involve any teams from the NOJHL. The Schreiber Diesel from the Superior International Junior Hockey League eliminated the Abitibi Eskimos 6-5 in Friday's semi-final taking place in Iroquois Falls this week.

The Diesel will play the OPJHL's Aurora Tigers in the final Saturday night. The Tigers squad includes former Skyhawks defenceman Quinn Waller and goaltender Michael Lalande.

The NOJHL champion Soo Indians had a rough ride in the event finishing with a 1-2 record and missed the playoffs.

Stars not shining at Telus Cup

It's been a long week for the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars. The Great North Midget League and Central Region champs struggled at the Telus Cup Midget AAA Championships this week in Red Deer, Alberta.
The Stars finished with a 0-5 record and were outscored 19-3 in their five round robin losses. That's quite a contrast for the North Stars who were 9-0 in the Great North Midget League playoffs and finished with a 32-2-1-1 record during the regular season.
