Voodoos hand out awards after memorable year

The Powassan Voodoos held their Banquet at Average Joe’s in North Bay on Friday night as the group gathered for one last time.  

The Voodoos created a new award, the “Alex Little Top Defenceman Award” and gave that to Alex Little who has broken nearly every franchise record for defenceman scoring this season. 

Callander’s Cameron Lemcke was named the Voodoos' MVP and handed the Steve Harland MVP Award.  

Battalion prospect Reyth Smith, who broke the franchise record for goal scoring in the regular season and playoffs for a 16-year-old rookie was given the Harrison Israels Top Rookie Award. 

Alternate captain Tucker Shields, who will be playing at Liberty University in the fall, received multiple awards including the Tomas Yachmenev Sportsmanship Award, and he shared the Eric Nagy Top Overager Award with defenceman Alex Case. 

The Voodoos were eliminated in five games by the Greater Sudbury Cubs in the NOJHL Final last Thursday. 

It was the first time the Voodoos had been to the NOJHL Final since 2017.
