The West Ferris Ringette Association is please to announce the winner of its 2010 Provincial A Ringette Championship logo contest.

The winner and the unveiling of logo were held at media conference on Sunday afternoon at the West Ferris Arena.

The winning logo was created by Sudbury resident Matina Castonguy, a 2004 Graphic design graduate from Cambrian College, and currently employed as a graphic artist in Sudbury.

Matina was excited to hear that her logo won, who heard about the contest from someone she knew in North Bay and knew that she did graphic design and so she entered. She said she entered a couple of logo entries as every time she designed one, she had new ideas to include, and it also get easier to do each time.

The contest was open from September 14 to October 31, and had 38 entries. A panel of four judges were chosen in early November (Andrew Hopkins representing the WFRA, Bruce Jacks ringettes new spokesperson son of Agnes and Sam Jacks (ringette’s ambassador and creator), local artist Kerry Fry, and Sue Harvey, Grand & Toy general manger. Each entry was numbered and then each judge analyzed the entries and then picked their 3 favourites, then the crop of entries were narrowed down to 5, and ultimately Matina’s logo was unanimously selected as the best logo for this provincial championship.

The logo will be used in all banners, programs, advertising, and souvenirs associated with the 2010 Provincial A ringette championship.

“What we really liked about this logo was the simplicity of the design,” explained logo contest judge Bruce Jacks.

For winning the contest, Matina received a prize of $100 and a $25.00 gift certificate from Kbros/George Marooosis Art Gallery.
