During the weekend of December 3rd, the WFRA 18+ A team participated in the Annual Pickering ringette tournament competing against the best teams in the Open 'A' division.

This was the first time they played as a team and they played against teams that play in a league, and those teams had more than 15 games played in their respective leagues.

After some long hours of driving through some snow in the Barrie area; The West Ferris Open 'A' played their first game Friday at 12:00 p.m. against Waterloo, with only 7 players. At the middle of the second the score was still 0-0; however, the players ran out of gas and the West Ferris Open A team lost their first game 5-0.

In their second game on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. against Ajax; the local squad demonstrated that luck had nothing to do with it losing 6-3. Later on that day, the West Ferris team played against Mississauga in a game that could have went both ways, as West Ferris lost the game by one point, losing 3-2.

On Sunday morning, West Ferris played their best game of the tournament in a 3-3 tie against Ottawa University. The West Ferris Open A didn’t advance to the finals on Sunday; however; they definitely picked up the pace, by playing defensively and being able to notice the improvement of their attacking strategies.

“Every team player has demonstrated their dedication to hard work which showed during each game," head coach Yvan Belanger said.

“In the past month, every player has worked hard to improve their skills, in both skating and ring control.”

The West Ferris Open A team is looking forward to their next tournament action when they travel to Whitby January 7-9th 2011.

Team members include: Kelsey Lecappelain, Jena Kiviaho, Amanda Storie, Alexandra Lamers, Sydney Ives, Jana Burgess, Josée Diotte, Alexandra Parker, Sara Parenteau-Comfort, Kristina Kavalinas, Kristina Noxon, Kelly Nesbitt, Julia Knox.
