Trojans Win Consolation Title at Blackball

The West Ferris Senior Basketball team competed in the 65th Annual (Oldest running tournament in Ontario) Blackball tournament held in Orillia over the weekend.

In their 1st game they faced #1 seed and eventual tournament champions Governor Simcoe from St Catherines. From start to finish the more experienced and polished team from down south dominated the Trojans on both ends of the floor and won going away 62-38. Cole Addley was the high man for West Ferris with 13 points. Charlie Hancock added 10.

In their next game the Trojans beat Park Street 47-30. Addley and Hancock had 13 points each while Brady Facette added 8 points.

In the semi-finals the Trojans defeated Patrick Fogarty 46-43. Hancock led the way with 20 including 5 three pointers. Addley added 16 points.

In the consolation final the Trojans were up agianst a very physical Twin Lakes school from Orillia and came away with a hard fought 50-43 victory. Hancock was again high scorer with 14 points and was selected MVP of the consolation side. Spencer Brear added 10 points for the Trojans.

Other members of the Trojan Senior team who were instrumental in the victories over the weekend were Detlev Himmelman, Robbie Tiller, Joey Puddister, Dale Valade, Phil Thesen, Tyler Fitzgerald.

The Trojans conclude their regular season with 3 tough games this week. They play Widdifield on Tuesday 7:30 pm @WFSS and @CSS Thursday 7:30 pm. They also have a re-scheduled at Widdifield on Friday TBA.

The West Ferris Junior team had a tough weekend dropping all 3 games but were very competitive in all of them.

In their 1st game they lost to St Thomas Aquinas 53-37. Jake Tougas led the way with 16 points and Braedon Stephenson added 8 points.

In their next game they played Huntsville and lost a heart breaker 59-55. The Trojans actually led with two minutes to go but couldn't hang on against a very good team. Tougas once again led the way 19 points.

In the final game they led going into the 4th quarter by six points only to see Bracebridge roar back to win 67-61. Curtis Devlin had a monster game soring a season high 21 points for the Trojans. Tougas chipped in 18 and Alex Mason added 9 points.

Other members of the Trojans are Jon Isenegger, Scott McLellan, Zach Graff, John Vendetti, Mike Gorda, Chris Kangur and Andrew Holland.

The Junior Trojans have 4 games this week and then head off to Peterborough to compete in the Kawartha Classic next weekend.
