Trappers lose hearbreaker in OT

Ryan Johnston scored his second goal in overtime to lead the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves to a 2-1 win over the North Bay Trappers in Sudbury.

The win gives the Wolves a convincing 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five Great North Midget League quarter-final series.

Trappers head coach Beau Moyer questioned a late 3rd period elbowing call that, Moyer said, gave the Wolves a late power play which Johnston scored seconds after the power play ended to tie the game 1-1.

Roch Pellerin had the lone goal for the Trappers and Tanner Davis was solid in goal for the Trappers in the loss.

"We need neutral site refs," Moyer said bluntly about the officiating.

"The officiating is very inconsistent and it's hard when the ref becomes the difference."

Despite the criticism of the officials, Moyer is proud of the effort as his team tries to avoid a sweep next weekend back in North Bay.

"They did everything we asked of them," Moyer said.

"It will be tough to get the morale back at practice Wednesday for sure. However, there is no quit in this dressing room and this (series) is far from over."

The Trappers will hope to extend the series next weekend with a pair of rare home playoff games at Memorial Gardens, with Saturday's game a 5:30 start.
