The North Bay Trappers are changing directions as the Larry Keenan and Art Tiernay handed over the team to current goaltending coach and former Trappers assistant coach Scott Kile.

The official word came at noon Thursday during a press conference at West Ferris arena.

"I'm elated at the opportunity," Kile said who has been with the Trappers organization for 7 years.

"I never dreamed I'd sit in this chair today. It's going to be a challenge but it's one I'm looking forward to."

Kile will take over as the club as Trappers president while Mike Brideau will become the team manager at the end of this season.

Brideau and Kile had been working with the successful Hockey For Beginners program in North Bay.

Keenan, who had been with the Trappers since its inception into the Great North Midget League in 1986 says the organization has been looking to make this change for the past 3 years.

"We feel that we have found the person who will operate the Trappers with integrity and dedication that is our trademark," Keenan said about the new Trappers president.

Kile has a number of issues to look over like potentially looking at the idea of affiliating their Midget AAA team with the Skyhawks and perhaps looking at Memorial Gardens as the venue to play out of next year.

“There is a learning curve and some blending here to do so what I will do is take on the capacity of minor involvement for the rest of the season and learn from Art and Larry and there’s a lot of things to do but once the torch is passed we are going to move forward and Larry and Art have given me their word that whatever we do with the leadership of the Trappers they will support and there’s no conditions attached to anything just do a good job and that’s the only thing they’ve ever asked,” Kile said.

Kile also gave current head coach Beau Moyer a vote of confidence.

“I mean there is stuff we are talking about now but as far as coaching staff goes that will happen at the end of the year when we discuss it,” he said.

“I haven’t had a chance to talk to Beau and I think that Beau is a great young coach and he’s only going to get better and we certainly will be talking to Beau and figuring out the next steps for next year and that will include what we need to do to make the Trappers and entity in North Bay and whatever we need to do we’ll do the right thing.”
