North Bay paves the way for new outdoor multi-use courts

The paved surfaces will offer residents and visitors in North Bay more opportunities for outdoor recreational activities during the summer months, while still serving as outdoor rinks for winter use

The City of North Bay has created more opportunities for outdoor recreational activities in spaces typically used as outdoor rinks for winter use.

Multi-use court surfaces have been added to Graniteville Playground off Gordon Drive, and Ferris Lions Park off Massey Drive. The projects were announced in July 2023.

City of North Bay crews did some grading in the two local parks in August 2023 in preparation for the two new multi-use court surfaces. The existing surfaces were paved to make them suitable for various recreational activities, including basketball and ball hockey. New rink boards went in and the basketball poles, backboards and nets were installed this spring.

In 2022, the City of North Bay opened outdoor multi-use courts in the Downtown-Waterfront area.

The addition of these new multi-use court surfaces is consistent with the findings of the Parks Master Plan, which identified a shortage of local court facilities. The plan recommends converting some outdoor rinks into multi-use recreational surfaces to address this shortage.
