WINDSOR,ON. - Stephanie Carr of Gymtrix was awarded the top prize in Ontario Level 7 Artistic Gymnastics this past weekend - the honor of being the 2009 Provincial Champion.

Stephanie's 52.4 overall was .25 ahead of the second place finish to secure the Gold and the coveted Provincial Cup. The 17 year old Scollard student has also earned the top position on Team Ontario scheduled to compete at Eastern Canadian Championships in Newfoundland next month. At the Windsor venue on Saturday, Stephanie had Gold medal finishes on both Vault and Beam. The following day, she competed for a second time in Event Finals on Floor and Bars and finished with a pair of Silvers. As a result of Stephanie's top finish Gymtrix coach Bill Rhoads has been named Team Ontario coach for the event.

"This is a great accomplishment for Stephanie and our team," said coach Nicki Chretien.

"Despite the 30 degree temperature in the venue, she managed to hit everything all weekend. We are walking on air right now."

Giorgetti nabs silver

In Level 6 competition, Corrine Giorgetti was the Silver medalist on Vault. This is a first podium finish at Provincials for the 15 year old Chippewa student and she has now earned her place on the Wall of Fame at Gymtrix.

"Any podium finish at Provincials in Artistic Gymnastics is an enormous accomplishment given the hundreds of athletes that compete in their categories during the qualification rounds," said coach Nicki Chretien.

Lindsay Jones, also a Scollard student, competed for the first time as a Level 6 at Provincial Championships. She finished in 6th place last season in Level 5 and as a
result, required her to move up a level this season. "The fact that she made it all the way to the final round is impressive in her first year at this level," said
coach Bill Rhoads.

"It's an achievement that few athletes realize, especially in a category as large as hers".

Gymtrix Team wins 3rd place Club Award

North Bay Gymtrix was presented with a banner for finishing in 3rd place in Tier One Club Championships this past weekend in Windsor. The results were based on placings at the semi finals held earlier this season. The tiers are based on the size of the Women's Provincial Teams in Ontario. Tier One includes all clubs with five or less competitors.

Gymtrix had only three Provincial members and still managed to beat out many clubs with full teams. Members of the Gymtrix team include Stephanie Carr, Lindsay Jones and Corrine Giorgetti and are coached by Bill Rhoads and Nicki Chretien.
