Brad Hummel and AJ Shiverdecker scored in the shootout breaking a 3-3 tie as the North Bay Skyhawks edged the Soo Thunderbirds 4-3 on Saturday night in Sault Ste. Marie.

Travis Bradshaw scored twice for the Skyhawks in regulation and AJ Shiverdecker scored the tying goal midway through the third frame to help sent the game into overtime.

Brad DiCandia, Ben Davey and Adam Pyymaki scored for the Thunderbirds, who - coming into the game - were unbeaten in their first five games (3-0-2).

Skyhawks head coach Darren Turcotte was impressed with his club's performance in their two weekend road games which started off with a 5-3 win against Manitoulin on Friday night.

“We picked up a possible five of six possible points on the weekend on the road," said Turcotte.

Now Turcotte hopes the momentum the club has gained will carry into Sunday's contest against Sudbury.

"We are expecting great crowd support for the Sudbury-North Bay rivalry. It's a tough third game in three nights so any extra motivation from the crowd will help a lot."

The Sudbury Wolves/North Bay Skyhawks match starts at 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
