The Skyhawks narrowly miss a crash landing after taking pre-game penalty Sunday night against the Blind River Beavers. A delay of game penalty was dished out to the 'Hawks after they neglected to have all thier players on the ice ready for puck drop. Four minutes in, Brad Hummel had his face kiss the ice by Blind River's Owen Pellitier - gloves dropped, bodies flew, and both men left the game with misconduct penalties.

Despite the early penalty trouble, Kody Carnevale trickled a cross crease shot past a stunned Jake Rosenthal to put North Bay on the board early in the first period. Two minutes later David Cimenelli thought he'd have some fun deflecting a Garrett Trainor point shot under the glove of Rosenthal to make it 2-0. The Beavers quickly answered back and Tyler DeDecker put one on the board for Blind River.

After a Beavers powerplay goal in the second the teams were deadlocked at two through two.

The game's second star Brad Norkum and third star Mike Lawlor each netted singles in the third to move the Skyhawks two ahead of the Beavers.

"The boys battled the whole night. We finished our checks the whole night and at the end of the day thats why we got the win," said Skyhawks Head Coach Ian Swalucynski.

It was Swalucynski's first home win as a head coach and he improves to 2-0 on the season since he replaced Darren Turcotte after his resignation two weeks ago.

"We're working hard and everybody is making sure that we're playing a team game," he added.

The Skyhawks next home game is Sunday against the Sudbury Junior Wolves. The puck drops at seven.

The North Bay Skyhawks scored twice in the third period en route to a 4-2 victory over the Blind River Beavers at Memorial Gardens Sunday night.

The two clubs were deadlocked at 2-2 after two periods of play.

Kody Carnevale, David Ciminelli, Brad Norkum and Mike Lawlor scored for the Skyhawks.

Andre Laperriere stopped 14 of the 16 shots he faced to get his second straight victory in goal for the Skyhawks.

The game was the home debut for new Skyhawks head coach Ian Swalucynski. With the win he improves his record as head coach to 2-0.

The Thunder Bay native took over for Darren Turcotte who resigned as head coach two weeks ago.

Michelle Baril will have a game story later...
