The North Bay Skyhawks built up a 3-0 first period lead and that was all the scoring they would need as they defeated the Soo Indians 5-2 on Memorial Gardens ice on Friday night.

Joe Trotter scored twice for the Skyhawks with singles went to Nick Kulas, Brad Hummel and Brad Norkum.

Ian Wilson, named the game's second star, was solid in goal for the Skyhawks, making a number of great saves including blocking a trio of Indians shots during a powerplay. Arguably his best stop came in the third period when he made fantastic glove save on a wrap-around that the Indians thought was a goal but the puck looked to be in Wilson's glove and not in the net. The Indians argued that his glove with the puck in it crossed the goal line but it was called no goal. He stopped a total of 30 shots for his fourth straight win.

Sean Farley scored both goals for the Indians.

Since the Christmas break the Skyhawks have won four of their last five games but still remain in fifth spot in the seven-team NOJHL.

The Skyhawks are back on home ice again next week as they host the Blind River Beavers on Friday night and then host the Sudbury Jr. Wolves on Sunday.
