POWASSAN, ON - Last years' GMHL finalists South Muskoka Shield came into Powassan with only 14 skaters and proved that they will still be a force this upcoming season.

Veteran Shield netminder Rob Sutherland made many great saves facing 52 shots in the game and winning 9-5 over the home team.

"This team is going to be ok down the road," stated Dragons head coach Lui Ricci after the loss.

"The imports are still learning my style of play and are getting better every game. We have had a tough start to the season facing some of the leagues strongest teams of the past in Elliot Lake, who finished first overall last season, and Muskoka who has won the league 2 years ago and was runner up last season losing in 7 games to the Deseronto Storm," he added.

Scoring for the Dragons were Adam Piorun with two beauties, Mariusz Gurazda, Eric Langford and Filip Komorski. DJ Champagne and Maciej Rompkowsi had two helpers each.

South Muskoka was lead by Nikita Jevapalous with a hat trick and singles going to Jericho Buwalda, Greg Gardiner, Adam Macbeth, Donny Danroth and Rob Childs with two.

The Dragons have a busy schedule this upcoming weekend travelling to Jamestown, New York to take on the Jets who joined the league in late August. Then they travel back over the border to take on the Toronto Moose in Thornhill Saturday night and finish off the weekend with a home visit from the Algoma Avalanche Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex.
