People are starting to take notice of Melissa Seamont.

The 16-year-old St. Joseph-Scollard Hall student is heading to Winnipeg in early May to play for Team Ontario North at the National Aboriginal Hockey Tournament from May 3rd to May 9th.

Playing an age category up this season with the Intermediate IceBoltz team, Seamont recorded 20 goals and 23 assists in 50 games and was a constant offensive threat every time she stepped onto the ice.

Seamont will play in her own category back down at the midget level in the championship.

The Northern Ontario First Nations team, coached by Blind River Beavers assistant coach Lawrence Enosse was so impressed by Seamont this season that they named her to the team even though she missed the camp.

Seamont hopes to stand out during the event as she hopes it will help move her closer to her dream of playing NCAA hockey.
