WIKWEMIKONG, ON - The Temiscaming Royals scored 5 times in the second period en route to a convincing 7-3 win over the Manitoulin Islanders here on Sunday night.

The Islanders opened the scoring in the first period on a power play goal from Derek Janssen. In the second, the Royals took over the game with 5 unanswered goals by Andre Leclair, Kelvin Blackned, Cedric Boutin, Chris Hebert and Shayne Golden.

The third period saw each team score twice. Michael Schiavone on a power play made it 5-2, followed by a goal from Nicholas Lalonde to bring the Islanders within 2 goals. But Chris Hebert's second of the game and Darren Shecapio restored the four goal lead until the final buzzer. The Royals outshot the Islanders 44-37.

Andre Leclair had a goal and 2 assists, Robin Mendelsohn had 3 assists, Chris Hebert 2 goals and 1 assist while Boutin had 1 goal and 1 assist. Newcomer Josh Blacksmith chipped in with a pair of assists.

The 3 stars were Leclair, Boutin and Schiavone.

The Royals now 8-11-1 are 6 points behind the Wolves with 3 games in hand.

The Royals have a busy weekend coming up, first they host the Jr. Wolves Friday night and then the Abitibi Eskimos will be in town for a rare Sunday night affair. Sunday game time is 7:00 p.m.
