Ringette version of East vs. West

The West Ferris Ringette Association will be holding its first annual Ringette-School Challenge Cup.
The West Ferris Ringette Association will be holding its first annual Ringette-School Challenge Cup. West Ferris Ringette Association players of all ages will represent either the high school they currently attend or the high school that their current primary/elementary school feeds. The high schools will then be combined to form two sides in a single evening of ringette excitement competing for the Ringette-School Challenge Cup.

“This idea came about after we asked the NDA if they would allow our high school players to have a period at East/West this past year but we were turned down. We thought we would prove the concept and try again in future years,” said event organizer Jeff Francom.

“I suspect the reason we were turned down was that the NDA didn’t know how big we really are in North Bay. I don’t see why ringette would not get a period at East/West once we show we can run our own event.”

The games will take place on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Pete Palangio Arena starting at 5:00 p.m. and going until 8:15 p.m.

Play begins with two periods of Novice competition, followed by a cheering competition led by the older players, then two periods of Petite play, then one period of Tween action with the Junior/Belle high school age players finishing the evening. Points will be awarded for each period played as well as for loudest team cheer. The winning side will be awarded the Ringette-School Challenge Cup.
