The Chippewa Raiders defeated the West Ferris Trojans Wednesday night 3-2 to take game one of their best-of-three NDA Hockey quarter-final series.

The Raiders opened the scoring in the second when Matt Caruso drove in hard around a Trojan defender and placed the puck 5 hole on Damien Bissonnette. They followed that goal with another from Matt Bahm just a minute later and the Trojans were forced to play catch up hockey the rest of the night. Ryan Leckie put the Trojans within one later in the second when the Trojans were on a power play but that was as close as the Trojans would come. Both teams would exchange goals in the third with Matt Caruso scoring for the Raiders and Scott Britton of the Trojans scoring with 9:11 left in the game.

Jason Perron stopped 46 shots to record the win for the Raiders while Damien Bissonnette stopped 23 of 26 shots on net. Game two is Saturday 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

Barons draw first blood

In the other NDA quarter-final on Wednesday, the Algoonqiun Barons blanked the Widdifield Wildcats 4-0. Goal scorers not available.
