There was a good turn out of fans on Saturday, October 25th, to watch the Canadore College Panthers host the St. Clair Saints in OCAA varsity volleyball action. The women’s game started at 6:00 p.m. and the men’s game followed at 8:00 p.m.

The Lady Panthers were overwhelmed by the dominant Saints losing 3-1: 25-7, 25-19, 18-25 and 25-16. The Saints offence was led by Jamie Voyvodic with 16 points: 12 kills and 4 serving aces. On the Panthers side of the court, Kristen Verkuyl and Rachel Johnson led the scoring with 11 points and 8 points respectively.

"The girls came out a bit flat and against a much improved team like St. Clair, you can’t, or it will cost you," said Panthers women's head coach Joey Rainer.

"The positive side is that they finished the match strong and will take that momentum into next weekend’s match in Sault Ste. Marie."

On the men’s side, the Panthers were unable to take a set away from their opponent. They battled hard against the Saints, but were not able to generate enough offense to come away with a victory, losing the game 3-0 (25-10, 25-17 and 25-19).

The Panthers were lead by Mason Truswell with a total of 13 points including 12 kills and 1 stuff block. Saints’ leaders were Corey Cole with 11 points, and Jeremy Decedre with 9.

The Panther women will be heading to Sault Ste. Marie to battle the Sault Cougars on October 31st. The men will play the Niagara Knights on November 8th.
