The Nipissing Lakers men’s soccer team were looking to get back to their winning ways in a Sunday match-up that featured the visiting Trent University Excalibur from Peterborough, Ontario.

The Lakers did not get off to the start they wanted as a turnover in the midfield allowed Thaddeus Bolton to tally his first goal of the contest as he struck a ball past Lakers keeper Matt Likuski. The Lakers pressed hard for the equalizers accumulating seven shots on goal with several near misses but to no avail. Bolton would add his second goal of the contest as he found a loose ball in the 18 yard box that the Lakers were unable to clear.

The Lakers down 2-0 at half would have to re-group and the team certainly did that having its chances to get back in the game however Trent keeper Josip Bosnjak would have none of that. Bosnjak made a brilliant diving save to his left stopping a ball that was headed for the top corner. This was a sign of things to come for the Lakers as they recorded nine shots on goal but simply could not capitalize on their opportunities and Trent would shutout the Lakers 2-0.

The Lakers now fall to (1-2-0) while Trent posts a (1-2-1) record.

The Lakers will hit the road for Kingston September 19/20 as the face RMC and Queen’s.
