For the second time in four years North Bay's Steve Omischl has won the Freestyle FIS World Cup championship thanks to a win in Sunday's World Cup event in Penticton, B.C.

Omischl's 12th World Cup gold medal was also his first in Canada.

“That was by far the hardest competition I’ve gone through in a few years,” said Omischl after winning with a score of 247.49, leaving fellow Canadian Kyle Nissen of Calgary second in 238.07 and American Peterson third in 231.53.

The 28 year-old won the overall men’s title in 2004 and was second in 2005, but slumped to 16th during an injury-plagued 2006.
