Preparations are being finalized as the Near North District School Board prepares to host the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) ‘AAA’ volleyball championships in North Bay.
The event will attract 20 of the province’s top ’AAA’ teams to North Bay for two days of competition, March 10-11. Three Near North District School Board schools are collaborating to host the premiere tournament, which will showcase the talent of some of the province’s top student-athletes.
Widdifield Secondary School, home of the Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA) champion Widdifield Wildcats, will host playoff games, while West Ferris and Chippewa Secondary Schools will also host round robin games, as will Ecole secondaire catholique Algonquin.
The St. Michael Catholic High School Warriors from Stratford, Ont., have won the past two OFSAA ‘AAA’ girls volleyball titles. Teams from throughout the province are currently going through regional championships to qualify for the OFSAA tournament. The 20-team field will be finalized Tuesday, with tournament seeding to follow.
