Grounded Studios, a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Yoga Studio that opened in North Bay this January recently competed in both the “2014 Ottawa BJJ Open” on October 25th, and at the “2014 Ontario Provincial Jiu Jitsu Championship” on November 29th and 30th.

In total the team had four competitors attend each event representing “Grounded Studios” and put North Bay on the map as a force to be reckoned with.

At the Ottawa Open, the team came home with one gold and three silver medals while at the Provincials the take was three gold medals, one silver and 1 bronze.

With over 1,000 competitor entries for the Provincial Championship, this was one of the largest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specific tournaments in Ontario to date. There were competitors from all over Ontario with some teams traveling from Saskatoon and New York City.

“To have acquired nine medals in two of the biggest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments in Ontario, let alone Canada is a really big deal, not to mention we have three provincial champions under one roof,” says Adam Gignac, Co-Founder/Head Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor of Grounded Studios.

“I honestly couldn't be more proud as an instructor, everyone had some hard-fought matches with most of them coming out on top.

“We are looking forward for to competing in the new year, not only will we have our adults hungry for more medals, we will also have the younger competitors looking to prove themselves with aspirations of becoming future champions as well.”
