NBCC sent a small contingent of paddlers to the Eastern Ontario Division Long Distance Regatta this past weekend in Carleton Place, ON.

An early spring allowed paddlers to get a head start on training.

Because of that the local paddlers started off the competitive season with some excellent results.

Sean Patterson claimed 1st place in the 4km peewee/bantam boys C1 race while Riley Evans finished 5th in the 4km peewee/bantam boys K1 race.

In the 6km midget/masters men’s K1, Rory Pecore paddled to a 1st place finish with Davis Evans was right behind in 2nd place. In the 6km C1 race, Zach Pecore finished in 3rd with Jeremy Robinson in 5th place.

Tessa Steel paddled to a strong 7th place finish in the 6km midget/masters woman’s K1.In the C1 race, Monica Hotson finished 1st.

Adam Arthurs finished 4th in the gruelling 12km open men’s C1 race, a new distance this year and double the longest distance raced in the past.

The afternoon big event was the open crew 4km race. Davis Evans/Rory Pecore finished in 1st in the men’s K2, Adam Arthurs/Zach Pecore finished 1st in men’s C2, while Tessa Steel/Monica Hotson finished 2nd in women’s K2. Sean Patterson partnered with a paddler from Gananoque to finish 2nd in the men’s C2 and were the 1st bantam boat to cross the line.

We hope to build on these early successes at the next regatta, the Ontario Cup #1 Long Distance Regatta in Carleton Place. Paddlers have been training daily after school with some paddlers even making the 6h00am daily practises in preparation for the competitive season.

NBCC will be hosting its annual open house on Saturday, May 26th, Saturday, June 2nd, and Saturday, June 9th at its clubhouse on 60 Lakeside Drive – Olmstead Beach from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
