The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Friday that the remainder of the 2019-20 season has been cancelled, due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

The official news comes on the heels of the major announcement by Hockey Canada last night which suspended all Hockey Canada sanctioned events for the season.

This includes the rest of the NOJHL playoffs, the Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Region event and the Centennial Cup, Canadian National Jr. A Championship.

“The NOJHL fully supports the decision made by Hockey Canada and the Canadian Junior Hockey League to cancel the remainder of the season,” stated NOJHL commissioner Robert Mazzuca.

“We remain fully committed to the health and safety of our players, on and off-ice officials, staffs, volunteers, dedicated fans and the general public, and will maintain doing so as the world continues to deal with this global crisis,” added Mazzuca.

The Powassan Voodoos, who finished first overall in the NOJHL with a 45-9-1-1, were set to open the NOJHL East semifinal tonight at the Powassan Sportsplex as the local squad was scheduled to host the Cochrane Crunch in the best-of-seven series.
