Adam Newton’s dream of representing Canada at the Junior Pan Am games in Windsor at the end of the month was dashed Tuesday afternoon as he got a phone call from the National team, and they told him that he wouldn’t be part of their international squad.

“I missed third by 0.04 seconds and I missed going to the Pan Am’s by 0.04 seconds and its heartbreaking really because it’s my dream to represent my country and then when you get that phone call that I didn’t make it is just like, oh man, like, my heart sunk.” Newton said outside his home Tuesday, less than two hours after receiving the dreaded call.

Adam Newton finished in fourth spot at this weekend’s National Junior Track and Field competition in Montreal. His goal was to finish in the top four in the National event which normally would give him a spot with the countries Jr. 4 X 100 meter relay team, but the National team elected to go with either a 200 meter sprinter or a long jumper in Newton’s place, perhaps as a cost saving measure for the Track and Field program that receives limited funding.

However the NOSSA 100 M and 200 M champ will now focus on his new University track and field career, as he will be joining the University of Windsor’s track team this fall. Newton hopes to prove to the National program that he should be alongside the Nation’s best junior sprinters.

“I want to prove to everyone that I should be on that team,” said a confident Adam Newton.

“I’m going to show people it was a mistake not to take me to the Pan American games.”
