Thursday evening marked the opening game of the Senior Girls Basketball finals, and the game was an uncontested battle. The St. Joseph Scollard Hall Bears opened the best of 3 series verse the Widdifield Wildcats, with a convincing 67-28 victory. The game featured a barrage of 3-pointers, with SJSH's Jenna Davidson leading the potent attack with nine 3-pointers.

With a large crowd on-hand, SJSH opened the first quarter on a 14-0 run, before the Widdifield settled in and began showing the reason as to why they are also in the NDA finals. The Bears used a solid team game to help secure Game 1, with point guard Robyn Degange using her speed and vision to find a variety of teammates for open looks. The Bears were able to get three players scoring double digits, as Jenna Davidson paced the attack with 31 points. Also finding the mesh on the night was Stephanie Jennings with 14 and Robyn Degagne with 11 points- respectfully. Sarah and Heather Payne led Widdifield in scoring on the evening.

Prior to the game, the SJSH Band opened up the series with a great rendition of 'Oh' Canada', and played several other well presented musical interludes.

Get out and support your local high school athletes, as Game 2 goes Monday at Widdfield at 5pm.
