The West Ferris Ringette Association has announced that the National Ringette League will be playing two games
in North Bay to open up the 2007-2008 season.

The games will feature "Ontario Division Rivals" the Richmond Hill Lightning and the Cambridge Turbos.

Both games will be played at the Pete Palangio Arena, on Saturday, October 13th with the ring drop at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. respectively.

Tickets are $5 at the door - minor-aged players wearing their ringette sweaters get in for free.

“For those of you who have missed these teams in previous years, you MUST come out and see ringette at its highest level - the action, speed and excitement is something to see," Past-President, Jeff Francom explained. “For those of you who have seen it before, well, you know what is coming and I know you won't miss it.”

In addition, all players from the Petite division right up to players from the older divisions will be eligible to have their name entered into a draw. The winner of the draw will get the opportunity to go on the ice with the NRL teams, and have the opportunity to warm-up with them.

Both National Ringette League Games will be broadcast and filmed live on location by Cogeco North Bay News, and will be aired, on Cogeco channel 12, at a later date.

“We would love to see the arena jam-packed with fans and everyone out watching these games,” Publicity Director, Andrew Hopkins explained. “It is great news for ringette, seeing Cogeco come on board as a media sponsor and supporting North Bay’s creation into the sporting world.”

Following the 7:00 p.m. NRL game, all ringette fans and players, nineteen and older, are invited to attend a licensed event at Club 100 at CFB North Bay (in the Ayr mess). Cost is $5 at the door. The doors will open at 9:00 P.M. and the party will run until 1:00 a.m. However, since it is a licensed event, it is mandatory that all attendees must be age 19 or older.

On October 13, the sport of ringette will be celebrated, with these two special events, and everyone is invited and welcome to attend. It was in 1963, that Sam Jacks invented the sport of ringette in North Bay, and since that time the sport has evolved worldwide and continues to grow.
