Tanner Davis stopped 61 shots in an impressive display of goaltending but it wasn't enough for the Trappers to break a six-game losing streak.

The North Bay Midget AAA Trappers allowed 2 goals in the final 4 minutes as they lost 2-1 to the Nickel City Sons in the Trappers first game back at West Ferris arena on Saturday night.

For goaltender Tanner Davis, the loss was tough to take.

“It's hard on the team the guys were just talking about it, a six game losing streak and we were winning the whole game and to have it stolen from us in the last 3 and a half minutes it’s just - we’ve got to rebound and come back against Sudbury for a big win,” said Davis who was recently named the Midget Trappers team captain for 2009-2010.

Anthony Guido got the equalizer on a screen shot that beat Davis and then a turnover at the blue line with less than a minute left allowed the Sons a 2 on 1 which was finished off by Darcy Haines for the game winner.

Dylan Staples had the lone goal for the Trappers late in the second period.

Trappers head coach John Couch was visibly disappointed but he was impressed with the club's defensive play which shut down the high powered Sons offence for more than 55 minutes.

"For the past couple of weeks we’ve been working on our gap control defensively to try and get ready to play here at West Ferris and we really have been struggling defensively as a team and what worked tonight is we closed the gap we have taken away pucks in the neutral zone," said Couch.

The Midget Trappers will hope to break out of their losing skid on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Sudbury to take on the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves at the Countryside arena.
