North Bay Midget BB Ice Boltz captured gold at their opening tournament this past weekend at the Toronto Aeros Future Stars tournament. The team went undefeated in round-robin play, gaining a bye into Sunday's Gold Medal game.

"These young women played hard all weekend and were deserving of the win. Each one of them came to play and everyone contributed. The competition is always stiff when we play in southern Ontario and we were fortunate to be able to take advantage of some power play opportunities and that made a difference in the final outcome,"
said coach Dino Cicci.

In the final game, the North Bay club was able to hold off the hard charging Coburg team in the first period. With Coburg looking to avenge a round robin defeat to North Bay they opened the scoring early in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. North Bay was able to responded quickly tying the score at the end of the first. The game stayed even until midway through the third period when North Bay was able to create an odd number rush on Coburg and convert it for the winning goal. Coburg got into penalty trouble trying to press for a goal and North Bay was able to add insurance goals on their power plays to capture the Gold Medal.

Kylie Deschenes, Amanda Hampel, Taylor Davis and Sara Maillet scored for the Ice Boltz in the tournament final.
