Playing hockey in North Bay has been great, thus far and I know it will only continue to get better as the season draws closer to an end. The longer I stay here, I feel the harder it will be for me to leave. Not only have I gotten along well with all my teammates, the support I have received from the community has been overwhelming. This past weekend the Trappers took part in the “Monster Pond Hockey Tournament,” out on Circle Lake. We weren’t competing for a title, just having a fun game of shinny with some of the Trappers most loyal fans; the North Bay North Stars. I along with the rest of my teammates had fun messing around and taking part in the event. It’s always a joy giving back to the community.

The community as a whole has been so good to the team and me personally. Not only have we had large numbers of fans at our hockey games, we get treated well by every school we visit and every community event we attend. Whenever any of us get injured - let’s face it hockey can hurt sometimes - there is a welcoming Dr. Wolfe and staff at Chiropartners attending to every bad shoulder and bruised hip. Dr. Wolfe has given us players the opportunity to heal faster and continue playing the game we love.

North Bay is not a small town, but it has all the qualities that make small towns a fun place to live. The close knit community, friendly people and local traditions (i.e. the Christmas Walk) all combine to compose an enjoyable living and working environment. The friendly waves from passers-by and the contagious smiles that flood throughout the Northgate mall are tiny, but important aspects of a tight-knit community. Even though I am from Calgary one of the biggest cities in Canada, my parents did grow up in the small town of Cudworth, Saskatchewan; the very same small town where my family and I vacation to every Christmas and summer. Just like Cudworth, North Bay portrays the quaint, old fashioned hospitality of a small town that makes one feel comfortable and at home.

Anyways that’s it for another week, enjoy yourselves!
GO! CANADA! GO! GO! Trappers! GO!
