Local teams perform well at OFSAA Alpine Ski Championships

The OFSAA Alpine Ski Championship was held earlier this week on February 25th and 26th at Blue Mountain, Collingwood. More than 360 ski racers from 70 Ontario schools competed for team and individual awards in both Slalom and Giant Slalom races.

More than 360 ski racers from 70 Ontario schools competed for team and individual awards in both Slalom and Giant Slalom races. Algonquin, Widdifield and St. Joseph Scollard Hall all entered winning teams from the recently held NOSSA competition in North Bay.

In the Level 1, Giant Slalom race, ribbons were awarded to the following schools for their team results. The Widdifield girls team consisting of Erin Bros, Sara Ferguson, Sierra Greco and Meghan Robidoux placed 6th overall. The St.Joseph Scollard Hall boys team consisting of Jordon Robb, Aaron Regis, Brendan Kirkey, Brandon Emond and Brian Paige placed 5th overall.

In the Level 2, Giant Slalom, Adam Buckham the individual NOSSA boys champion earned an 8th place ribbon in a highly competitive race, missing out on the gold medal by just over one second.
