North Bay’s Jordie Leggett fired back to back 75’s for a two-day total of +6 to win the event at the Idlewylde Golf and Country Club in Sudbury.

Leggett is the first North Bay golfer since Paul Soni to win the coveted event. Soni won the event way back in 1980. He joins local golf legend Bill Morland who captured the title 12 times.

It was a big win for the North Bay golfer who last won a tournament back in 1999. That’s when the 18-year-old became the youngest player ever to win the North Bay Invitational Golf Tournament held annually at the North Bay Golf and Country Club.

“It’s a pretty prestigious tournament and it’s good to be back in the winners circle,” Leggett said about the victory, noting that he thought he had forgotten how it felt to win a tournament.

The two-stroke victory was extra special as Leggett edged out 5-time champion Vince Palladino for the win.

“It was fun beating Palladino on his home course,” Leggett said about defeated the former Canadian tour player.

The victory moves Leggett along to the 2008 Ontario Amateur Championship which takes place next July at the Islington Golf Club in Toronto.
