Nipissing Lakers head coach Mike McParland thought his team was still to new to get ranked after a pair of weekend wins, but the CIS media poll showed no indication of that bias as the 5-1-1 Nipissing Lakers are ranked 9th in the nation according to the rankings which were released this week.

“This is exciting news for us, and a little bit unexpected,” said Lakers head coach Mike McParland.

“With this being our first year in the league, no one really knew how the team would perform. We’ve been working hard and have earned some wins, so we’re happy to make the top ten. I think it’s also a result of good team building on the part of the ownership and the university, as well as the work we put in to the recruiting process last winter.”

The CIS released the weekly top ten on Tuesday. The University of New Brunswick is ranked first overall for the second straight week. Lakehead University, in fourth place, is the highest ranked Ontario university.

The Lakers are joined in the rankings by a pair of other OUA East clubs like the UQTR Patriotes rated 3rd and McGill, rated 7th.
