The Nipissing Lakers are pleased to announce that they have once again partnered with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit to promote the Canadian Cancer Society’s sixth annual Driven to Quit Challenge.

The Driven to Quit Challenge is a campaign that encourages Ontario adult tobacco users to give up tobacco with the support of a “buddy.” Since 2006, the campaign has helped more than 130,000 entrants to make a quit attempt. Last year, there were 713 entries in the North Bay Parry Sound district, up from 290 in 2009.

“As a former smoker, I realize that the rewards of quitting are priceless,” said Nipissing Lakers Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Gary Davison.

“Hearing from Lydia Weiskopf-Tran, Community Health Promoter from the Health Unit, of the Challenge’s success last season was very gratifying."

The Challenge will offer new and exciting prizes to motivate tobacco users across Ontario to stick to their New Year resolution and quit smoking. Registration opens January 4, 2011. To register for The Challenge, Ontarians aged 19 and over can:

• call 1-877-513-5333
• visit the Health Unit’s display table at the January 14th and February 5th games;
• go to www.DrivenToQuit.ca;
• visit the Nipissing Lakers’ Facebook page; or
• contact the Health Unit.

Free support, advice and information are also available through the Canadian Cancer Society Smokers’ Helpline at 1 877 513 5333 and SmokersHelpline.ca.

The Lakers will kick-off the New Year with games on January 1st and 2nd against NCAA Division Lake Superior State Lakers. The Lakers vs. Lakers match-up will feature the first ever NCAA team to visit North Bay. The game will feature an all-star line-up including current and future NHL prospects.

To purchase tickets for the game please visit Memorial Garden Box office on December 31st from 10 am until noon or between 4 pm and 8 pm. The box office will open at 10 am on January 1st and January 2nd.
