NORTH BAY, ON – The Nipissing Lady Lakers concluded the first half of regular season play by sweeping the Sault Cougars 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-21) in OCAA weekend volleyball action.

The Lady Lakers improved their league leading record to 10-1 on the season while the Cougars drop to 1-11. The team has made steady improvements throughout the first half of the season and now sit a top the provincial rankings and eight nationally.

Stephanie Stubbert had a career high 17 points to lead the Lakers offence while Melissa Graham and Lucia DeMarco added 6 points and 5 points respectively.

Stubbert was named the Boston Pizza player of the game.

“The girls have progressed well during the first half of the season,” said head coach Marc LaRochelle. “We also know that we have some room for improvement and if we want to achieve our goal of winning gold we have to continue to progress and evolve as a team.”

LaRochelle also added that the break from play will be nice to heal up some bumps and bruises and to allow the student-athletes some extra time to focus on their studies. The team will be holding optional practices for the next few weeks along with some conditioning workouts and will return to the hard court on January 8th, 2010 as they travel to Oshawa for the Durham Cup.
