TORONTO, ON - The Nipissing women’s basketball program netted their first championship at the University of Toronto extramural tournament this past week. The final saw the Lakers stomp their U of T opponents 42-20 in front of a large, and loud, hometown crowd.

Led by captain’s Agnes Plourde-Doran and Rebecca Crosby, the tournament was a glowing success for the Lakers with every player contributing offensively and a tremendous team defence that consistently wore down opponents. The team finished the tournament with a record of 3 -1.

In only their second year of operation, the Lakers are quickly gaining a reputation and are eager to prove themselves again at their next tournament in January. In the meantime, the women’s program has been invited to participate in exhibition games with OCAA varsity teams from the Greater Toronto Area.

Basketball fans will have their chance to support the team at the 2nd annual 3 on 3 tournament fundraiser which will be held Friday, December 4th at the RJ Surtees Gym.
