SUDBURY - The West Ferris Trojans junior soccer team traveled to Sudbury today to compete in the 'AA' NOSSA soccer championships. Going in as the NDA champs, the Trojans were looking to their strong defensive play, and balanced attack to propel them to not only a local but district title. They were in tough against a proven soccer program from St. Charles College in Sudbury who have won the Nina Grossi Memorial Trophy for 'AA' NOSSA junior boys soccer, four times in the past six years.

Battling against a big wind in the first half, the Trojans were able to keep the St. Charles Cardinals off the scoresheet, while delivering a few key chances themselves towards the Cardinals' net. At the half, the score was 0-0, and both teams were looking to make their move for the remaining 40-minute second half. In the second half, Kiefer Uuksulainen capitalized on a bobble from the Cardinals' goalkeeper, and put the visiting Trojans up 1-0. Midway through the second half, Scott Pawson delivered a beautiful left-footed cross onto the foot of Charlie Gautheir to put the Trojans up by a 2-0 score. This proved to be enough offense while the Trojans were able to shut down any offensive threats by the Cardinals until the final whistle. Brad Cauchy played an outstanding game between the pipes again for the Trojans, earning himself and the squad a 2-0 shutout in this NOSSA final.

Trojan's coach, Ryan Culhane, praised the entire team in their efforts to stick to our plan, and credited each player on the 20-man squad in having a part in capturing both the NDA and NOSSA junior boys titles this year.

"All 20 guys played to win throughout the NDA playoffs, and here today," Culhane said.

"I am really proud of these guys as athletes, and as fine young men who have a lot of things going for them not only on the soccer pitch, but as individuals. It takes talent to win any game, but it takes a team full of talent and hard workers to win not only the NDA title, but the NOSSA title also in the same season."

The 2009 NDA and NOSSA champion Trojans roster includes: Zach Andre, Greg Brooks, Brad Cauchy, Jeremy Coish, Kyle DeCosta, Zach Deschenes, Curtis Devlin, Charle Gauthier, Mike Gorda, Brandon Harris, Skylar Hennigar, Jon Isenegger, Mitchell Knapp, Scott McLellan, Matt McLeod, Dillon Murdoch, Scott Pawson, Jake Tougas, Kiefer Uuksulainen, Shawn Zarkovich, and coaches Ryan Culhane, Ken Ferron and Brad Boake.
