The Junior ‘A’ North Bay Trappers will be making their triumphant return to North Bay’s Memorial Gardens this Sunday night, September 13, for their home opening match against rivals the Soo Thunderbirds.

The game promises to be both a celebration of the team’s return and the legacy that the North Bay Trappers represent, as well as the family and community aspects that the sport has always represented here in Hockeyville.

“We’re very excited about our home opener this Sunday and have plenty of surprises in store for both long time fans of the club and our new fan-base,” explained Junior ‘A’ North Bay Trappers Vice President Guy Blanchard.

As part of their focus on making hockey a community experience, the Trappers have a few special deals arranged for Sunday’s home opener game. All children 10 and under will receive free admission to the game and while supplies last, there will also be free thundersticks, face painting, a tennis ball drop and more.

“We really want to remind North Bay about the proud hockey heritage our city has and how going out to the game used to be a real family event,” Trappers Director of Sales and Marketing David Di Benedetto stated.

Part of the reason behind the name change from the Skyhawks to the Trappers was to recapture some of the hockey heritage that North Bay is known for. In acknowledging the historic Trappers team, they have invited George Gosselin to drop the puck. Gosselin was one of the original line-up in 1952 and went onto a professional career that included two world championships in 1958 and ’59.

The return of the Junior ‘A’ North Bay Trappers also marks a new synergy between the various Trappers divisions, one that will create a sense of pride with players as they grow up through the Trappers organization.
