The North Bay Promo Sports Depot Midget 'A' Ice Boltz girls hockey club travelled to Brantford this past weekend to participate in the 27th Annual Walter Gretzky Hockey tournament.


The North Bay Promo Sports Depot Midget 'A' Ice Boltz girls hockey club travelled to Brantford this past weekend to participate in the 27th Annual Walter Gretzky Hockey tournament.

The club was in tough in their opening game Friday against the Orangeville Tigers who kept the pressure on the North Bay team, knotting the score at 5-5 late in the final seconds of the game. The Boltz bounced back in their second game of the opening day against the Mississauga Chief beating them by a score of 2-1. On Saturday, the Boltz overcame the Guelph Thunder's early lead to win the game 5-3, ensuring the Boltz a berth in the Sunday morning semi-final. In a rematch against the Orangeville Tigers, the North Bay team overcame a shortened bench due to an illness and an injury to win the game by a score of 2-1. In the Sunday afternoon feature game, North Bay was matched up against the well rested hometown Brantford Ice Cats. North Bay took an early lead in the game and they never looked back, winning by a final score of 4-1 to capture the Midget 'A' Tournament Championship. This is the Ice Boltz fifth tournament championship out of the seven tournaments they have competed in this season.

Next tournament action for the Ice Boltz will take place over the Easter weekend when they compete at the worlds largest female hockey tournament hosted by the Brampton Canadettes.
