The North Bay Trappers squeezed out a 4-3 victory Sunday afternoon over the visiting Kapuskasing Flyers. The win marks the Trappers third victory in a row and improves their record to 3-5-1 on the season.

Trappers forward Tyler Hummel led the way offensively, notching the game winner with less than three minutes remaining to complete the hat trick.

“I was just trying to get a shot on net. Really, I wasn’t trying to be cute about it. I just wanted to get a quality shot on net and the bounces went my way today,” said Hummel.

The skilled winger was back in the line-up today after sitting out Saturday night’s game due to a one game suspension for hitting from behind. Hummel’s fresh legs stood out, especially in the third when he took the puck at center ice and danced through the defense before roofing a backhand upstairs on Flyers goalie Ryley Nadon short side.

“It’s not to fun sitting out especially when your team is winning and everyone is getting a lot of points, so it was nice coming out today and putting up a couple points,” said Hummel.

The shorthanded Flyers turned the tide in the third scoring just four minutes into the final frame. The Flyer’s momentum continued and Marc Fraser was awarded by squaring the game with just under ten minutes to play. However, the Trappers handled the heat and turned to Hummel for the game winner.

The Trappers had a chance to cushion their lead in the final minute of the first and second periods but couldn’t put the Flyers away for good, almost causing them the game.

“Their goalie played really well today, and he kept them in the hockey game. A couple bounces go our way and the score is totally different,” said head coach John Couch.

Couch summed up the Trappers weekend as solid team play and expects the same effort the rest of the way.

“From now on it’s hard every night, these games are must win games for us, because we’re making our playoff run now,” said Couch.
